Terms of Use

1. Agreement

These Terms are an agreement between you and anonymuslim (“we”, “us”) for using Saqal and our other apps and services. By using them you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the apps.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you’re under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these Terms for you.

3. Your account

Keep your sign-in secure and your information accurate. You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Usernames that impersonate someone or are offensive may be changed or removed. You can use Saqal without an account; features that share or sync need one.

4. The Quran content and religious guidance

The apps show Quranic text, translations, tafsir and recitations from sources we believe are reliable, and use software to detect ayahs and time recordings. However:

• We don’t guarantee that any text, translation, timing or detection is error-free
• The apps are study aids, not a substitute for learning with a qualified teacher
• For questions of religious practice, please consult qualified scholars

5. Your content

“Your Content” is what you upload or write: recordings, videos, labels, profile details and photos, and collections. You keep ownership of it. By posting it, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process (for example to detect ayahs and timings, make video versions and check it for safety), display and distribute it to the audience you choose, only to run and improve the service. The licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies others have already saved within the app and anonymous training contributions you opted in to.

You confirm that you have the right to post Your Content: that the recitation is your own, or that you have permission from the reciter and anyone who owns the recording. Don’t upload professional recitations you don’t have rights to.

6. Community rules: zero tolerance

Saqal is a place to learn and share the Quran. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Don’t post or send anything that:

• Is sexual, nude, violent, hateful or harassing
• Mocks or disrespects the Quran, religion, or any person or group
• Impersonates someone, or shares someone else’s private information
• Is spam, a scam, advertising, or otherwise off-topic for a Quran community
• Is illegal or infringes anyone’s rights

You can report any post or account and block anyone. Uploads are screened automatically and reported content is reviewed by a person, normally within 24 hours. We remove content that breaks these rules and may suspend or remove the account that posted it.

7. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on Saqal infringes your copyright, email support@anonymuslim.com with: the work you own, a link to or description of the content, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorised, a statement that your notice is accurate and that you’re the owner or authorised to act for them, and your signature. We’ll remove infringing content promptly and close the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed by mistake, you can send us a counter-notice to the same address.

8. Acceptable use

Don’t:

• Reverse engineer the apps or try to get at their source code
• Scrape, overload, or interfere with the service or other users
• Get around blocks, privacy settings, moderation or upload limits
• Use the service for anything unlawful

9. Donations

Saqal is free. You may choose to support it through a third-party donation service. Donations are voluntary gifts: they don’t buy any feature or service, aren’t tax-deductible (we aren’t a registered charity), and are handled under that service’s terms. If we ever offer paid features, prices and terms will be shown before you buy, and App Store purchases are refunded under Apple’s policies.

10. Third-party content and services

Some content and services (such as Quran text, translations and recitation audio, and sign-in with Apple or Google) come from third parties under their own terms. We aren’t responsible for them.

11. Disclaimer

The apps are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that data will never be lost, though we take reasonable care to prevent it.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the apps. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

13. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of content you posted or your breach of these Terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, to the extent the law allows.

14. Ending your use

You can stop using the apps and delete your account at any time (Settings → Account → Delete Account). We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or to protect other users. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 5, 11, 12, 13 and 16) continue after that.

15. Apple App Store

If you got the app from Apple’s App Store: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we (not Apple) are responsible for the app and its content; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support; if the app fails to meet an applicable warranty you may notify Apple for a refund of any purchase price, and Apple has no other warranty obligation; Apple isn’t responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims; you confirm you aren’t in a US-embargoed country or on a US list of prohibited parties; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.

17. Changes

We may update these Terms. For material changes we’ll update the date above and tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the apps after that means you accept the updated Terms.
